Fans have been asking for months what the main event of UFC Fight Night 154 is, and for the longest period, no one knew. The event takes place June 22 at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, and also neighborhood boy Stephen”Wonderboy” Thompson inaccessible to fight so soon after the beating he took against Anthony Pettis in March, it was difficult to predict who would headline the card.
We know.
The UFC declared this week that the main event of UFC Fight Night 154 is going to be an exciting five-round featherweight fight between”The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and Renato Moicano. These are two of the best featherweights in the world, and this battle should be a good deal of fun. It might not be a title battle, but you would be hard-pressed to view any lovers whine about this fight Jung (14-5) is coming from a last-second KO loss to Yair Rodriguez in UFC Fight Night 139 in one of the most significant MMA battles of all time. Jung was well on his way to winning the bout before he got caught with an unorthodox upward elbow by Rodriguez in the 4:59 mark of the fifth round and suffered a shocking knockout loss. The defeat dropped his overall UFC record but the truth he’s won six bonuses in six UFC battles says what about Jung. Win or lose, Jung is one of the fighters we’ve ever seen in this sport. It will be difficult to recover from such a barbarous KO following such a war of a struggle, however after shooting over six weeks off to heal up, hopefully he’s 100% healthy and good to go for this battle. The loss to Rodriguez knocked him out of this featherweight title picture for the time being, but when he could beat Moicano, he will jump right back in the mix.
Moicano (13-2-1) is also coming off of a brutal KO reduction, this one to Jose Aldo back in UFC Fight Night 144. Like Jung, Moicano was winning the struggle until Aldo turned the clock back unleashed a violent flurry of strikes that transpired Moicano out. Overall he’s 5-2 in the UFC and one of the featherweights in the world. Besides declines to Aldo and Brian Ortega — there’s no shame to losing to either of these guys — Moicano has been one of the best featherweights in the UFC otherwise. Like Jung, he needs to rally from his last loss to be able to rejoin the featherweight title combination, but there is no reason to thing he can not do it.
The odds for this fight should be interesting when they come outside, but when I had to guess, Moicano will be marginally preferred. Bettors will probably be seeking to fade Jung coming off of that bad autumn while Moicano is somebody who constantly gets a ton of respect from the gambling public. But it’s definitely a close fight that could go either way, and MMA fans in Carolina should be excited they landed this exciting fight as the main event of UFC Fight Night 154.
